A typical
day...
Arrival, greeting, free choice
- Block area, Dramatic Play area, Library area,
Sand/Water table, Science area are learning centers located in the classroom
that are open to children and provide them with materials to engage in
solitary or small group play.
Breakfast
Reading
- Literacy is an important component to the
Creative Start curriculum. There are ample books throughout the classroom that
children can access. In addition, books are read in large group and small
group with opportunities for questions, conversations and discussions about
the books.
Washing Hand/Tooth Brushing
- The development of children’s self-help skills
helps build confidence and promotes healthy habits for life. Children are
encouraged to wash their hands before meals and after play. Tooth brushing is
done after meals.
Outdoor Play
- Is done daily, weather permitting, and can be
playing in the playground, taking neighborhood walks or visiting local
playgrounds.
Circle Time
- Allows children and teacher to discuss the
daily schedule, discuss relevant topics such as the weather or the ongoing
classroom theme.
Choice Time
- Teachers will provide children with a choice
between 2-3 activities that are related to the theme they are covering.
Lunch
Rest Time
- Not all children nap and rest time allows
those children who nap an opportunity to do so. For other children, it is an
opportunity to rest and do a quiet activity, such as looking at a book.

Directions to the school
From Watertown Square –
Travel a few blocks west on Main Street (toward
Waltham)
- Left onto Green Street after St. Patrick’s
Church
- Left onto Chestnut Street
- Watertown Creative Start is straight ahead;
park in the lot to the right.
From the West –
Take the Mass Pike east towards Boston.
- Take the Newton exit (Exit 17). Follow signs for Watertown which will
place you on Galen St. Take a left onto Route 20 (Main St.)
- Go through (2) sets of lights, you will pass by the Watertown Fire Station
on the right and Watertown Police Station. You will see a Store 24 on your
left, then you will see St. Patrick’s church on your left.
- Take the first left after the church (Green Street) and then take your
next left (Chestnut Street). The parking lot to the Watertown Creative Start
is to your right.
Directions from the North and South -
- Take Route 128 to the Route 20 Waltham/Weston (Main Street Exit) going
towards Watertown Square. Follow Route 20 (Main Street in Waltham) all the way
through – going towards Watertown (about 4 to 5 miles)
- Once you have passed the Ground Round on your left, continue for about a
1.5-2 miles. Make a right on Green St. and then the next left onto Chestnut
Street. The parking lot to the Watertown Creative Start Center will be to your
right.
