A typical day...
Arrival, greeting, free choice
- Block area, Dramatic Play area, Library area,
Sand/Water table, Science area are learning centers located in the classroom
that are open to children and provide them with materials to engage in
solitary or small group play.
Breakfast
Reading
- Literacy is an important component to the
Creative Start curriculum. There are ample books throughout the classroom that
children can access. In addition, books are read in large group and small
group with opportunities for questions, conversations and discussions about
the books.
Washing Hand/Tooth Brushing
- The development of children’s self-help skills
helps build confidence and promotes healthy habits for life. Children are
encouraged to wash their hands before meals and after play. Tooth brushing is
done after meals.
Outdoor Play
- Is done daily, weather permitting, and can be
playing in the playground, taking neighborhood walks or visiting local
playgrounds.
Circle Time
- Allows children and teacher to discuss the
daily schedule, discuss relevant topics such as the weather or the ongoing
classroom theme.
Choice Time
- Teachers will provide children with a choice
between 2-3 activities that are related to the theme they are covering.
Lunch
Rest Time
- Not all children nap and rest time allows
those children who nap an opportunity to do so. For other children, it is an
opportunity to rest and do a quiet activity, such as looking at a book.

Newton Creative Start @ Washington Street is located in the
building directly behind Our Lady’s Church on Washington Street. From Newton
Corner, take route 16 (Washington Street) west. Look for Adams Street on your
right. Take a right onto Adams Street and your first left into the parking lot.
Newton Creative Start is located in the building that is straight ahead, with
blue awnings adorning the windows. From Wellesley/Route 128, take route 16
(Washington Street) east and after passing the Whole Foods on your
left, look for a large church. This is Our Lady’s. Take a left onto Adams Street
and your first left into the parking lot. School is straight ahead.

FUN FACT: Newton Creative Start @ Warren House is located in the old
Warren Junior High. This building, which underwent extensive renovations, is the
ideal location for a child care center. With high ceilings and big windows for
lots of natural light, the classroom is inviting for preschoolers. Access to an
enclosed outdoor playground, as well as huge playing fields affords the children
numerous opportunities for fun gross motor activities.

Newton Creative Start @ Warren House is located on Washington
Street (route 16) in West Newton. From Newton Corner, proceed on Washington
Street heading west. After you cross over the Mass Turnpike, proceed through 3
sets of lights and the Warren House facility is on your left. From
Wellesley/Route 128, take route 16 east and look for the Warren House facility
on your right.
